Scaling Values
To open the Scale values dialog, do one of the following:
- Click Table options
/ Chart options
> Scale values. - Select View menu > Table options / Chart options > Scale values.
Applying scaling to data values alters them by the chosen scaling value. Add, subtract, multiply, or divide by any non-zero number from -1E100 to +1E100. (That is, from -10100 to +10100)
For example, for a data value of 12 and a scaling factor of 10:
- Add - adds 10. The scaled value is 22.
- Subtract - Subtracts 10. The scaled value is 2.
- Multiply - Multiplies by 10. The scaled value is 120.
- Divide - Divides by 10. The scaled value is 1.2.
Note: To edit a value on the scaling page, either double-click it or select it and press F2. Then type or select the new value.
To apply scaling:
- Under Measure, find the measure to which scaling will be applied.
- Under Scaling operator, choose an operator (double-click the cell or select it and press F2) from the drop-down list.
- Under Scaling value, type a value. Enter any number from -1E100 to +1E100.
- Use the Number of decimals dropdown list to choose a number of decimals that is different from the default. For example, when scaling currency values you could choose to have more than two decimals to show partial cents.
Note: The Number of decimals setting only takes effect if scaling is applied. It cannot be used to reformat numbers without scaling. - Under Name (Or Name - Language), type a name for the scaled measure. If a name is not provided, the default name will be used. For example, the default name "Sales / 10" indicates that the Sales measure's values have been divided by a factor of 10.
- When complete, click OK.
Notes:
- Scaling can be applied to more than one measure at the same time.
- Value highlighting is based on the original cell values before scaling is applied. Therefore cell colors will not change with scaling.
